Cladding

Cladding is often used to improve the erosion and corrosion resistance of surfaces, whereby weld overlays of metals with very different properties from the substrate extend the serviceable life. Cladding can also be used to improve the mechanical properties. In many instances the application of a high-quality cladding material to a less expensive substrate is of qualitative and economic interest, and is a suitable alternative for solutions such as the use of expensive duplex materials.
