NEN 3140

Safety plan

Using our knowledge and experience, we have developed a watertight safety plan for the implementation of safe electrical engineering operations in your organisation. When you follow this plan, you?ll have no trouble complying with the EN 50110 and NEN 3140 guidelines.

Implementation in four steps
The safety plan to implement safe electrical operation comprises four logical steps.

Step 1: Inventory of electrical safety in your building
As the first step in the safety plan, GTI makes an inventory of the electrical safety in your building. Based on your answers to a detailed questionnaire, GTI's specialists take a close look at the measures and facilities in your building. Among other things, they check the agreements that have been made in the field of electrical engineering; they examine how the tasks in your organisation have been organised; and they draw up an inventory of the training and experience of your employees.

Our experts also map out items such as the nature, working environment and system components of your electrical engineering systems and electrical tools and equipment. Based on all this information, GTI determines whether (and how often) your employees require extra training and how often your systems and equipment should be inspected.

Step 2: Compiling a safety handbook
As part of the second in implementing the EN 50110 and NEN 3140, GTI compiles a safety handbook on which your safety system will be based. Using the findings made during the inventory phase, GTI's specialists map out the responsibilities of Management in your organisation and the tasks and authorisations to be assigned to your employees. In addition, they put procedures in place for electrical engineering tasks, training courses and periodical instruction. The safety handbook also includes a plan for inspecting the electrical systems and tools and equipment in your building and background information about regulations and norms, among other things.

Step 3: Training employees and the relevant parties
The third step in the implementation process involves training your maintenance employees and the other relevant parties to use the new safety system. Training takes place by organising group courses and by instructing employees at the workplace. GTI holds a presentation to first discuss safe working practices in general. We then deal with the Health & Safety Legislation, the EN 50110 and NEN 3140, and we also show you how we will implement this norm in your organisation.

Implementation instruction
While instructing your employees at the workplace, we explain the implementation of the EN 50110 and NEN 3140 in your building in more detail. We inform the employees in question about their tasks, authorisations and responsibilities. We also explain which safety measures are applicable to their tasks. Furthermore, we teach them how to use personal protection resources, identify and remove unsafe situations, and work with live electricity.

Step 4: Identifying the tasks and responsibilities of employees
During the fourth step of the implementation process, the Management of your organisation officially designates (in writing) the employees of the technical service. That means that their tasks, authorisations and responsibilities are now clearly specified on paper. This activity completes the process. As part of a final evaluation, GTI would be happy to run through the process with you one more time.
