Tests & Inspections

Emergency lighting

In mid-2007, ISSO publication 79 (Inspection and Maintenance of Emergency Lighting Systems) will become a statutory obligation. The new law requires emergency lighting systems to be maintained in the same way as cars ? that is, periodical inspections rather than just replacing bulbs when they wear out.

New emergency lighting systems, renovated systems and systems that were never inspected must be subjected to an initial inspection from mid-2007. After the disasters in Enschede and Volendam and major power failures in the US and Europe, the emergency lighting in many buildings was found to be deficient. ISSO publication 79 stipulates that emergency lighting systems must be inspected periodically after the initial inspection.

What does GTI do?
While inspecting your emergency lighting system, GTI focuses on the following points, among others:

  • Have the right pictograms been used?
  • Have the right fittings been used?
  • Is there enough emergency lighting present?
  • Have the emergency lighting drawings been approved by the fire department?
  • Does the emergency lighting switch on automatically if there is a power failure or when the lights stop working?
  • Does the emergency lighting stay on for a particular (pre-determined) period?

Having carried out the inspection, we submit our findings to you in a conveniently arranged report.

Why GTI?
There are three important reasons for choosing GTI:

1. Our services entail more than inspection
GTI can advise you on measures for resolving any defects to the system (and also provide you with a cost estimate). If you wish, we will repair the defects ourselves. Moreover, you can enter into a maintenance and management contract with GTI for several years. We will then take full responsibility for all your system maintenance tasks.

2. GTI offers independent inspection
Not only GTI as a company, but also all of our inspectors individually are certified for various disciplines (scopes). Moreover, every inspector is evaluated every eighteen months on the basis of an examination of his/her work and reports.

3. GTI is the only organisation that can provide the inspection of emergency lighting systems as part of a total package.
