GTI Infra BV wins order for the renovation of Dutch reservoir and lock complexes
Zaltbommel/Maastricht, September 18, 2006As part of the Maaswerken project, the project office Rijkswaterstaat (RWS) Maaswerken is working on improving the navigation route, flood protection and nature development in the province of Limburg. This project includes the renovation of reservoir and lock complexes in Grave and Belfeld/Sambeek. The Directorate-General of Public Works and Water Management has awarded this order to GTI Infra BV.
Rijkswaterstaat Maaswerken is a partnership between the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and the province of Limburg. The improvements will be implemented by building new locks during the coming years and increasing the depth, length and width of existing locks. GTI Infra BV will take responsibility for these two large-scale projects, together with GTI Zuidoost BV.
Grave reservoir level boost
The first project is the Grave reservoir level boost. This involves artificially raising the water level, which is necessary to prevent unacceptable dehydration of agriculture and nature areas (as a result of the increased depth of the summer bed of the Meuse). The higher water level is achieved by placing the gates higher at the reservoir. This measure gives the Meuse and the Meuse-Waal canal more depth for shipping.
The work for GTI in the project consists of supplying and installing a new operation and control system, raising the top twenty paddles of the reservoir, replacing the hydraulic systems of the eastern chamber and supplying, laying and connecting new cabling.
Renovation at Belfeld/Sambeek, 2nd stage
The second project GTI will carry out for the Dutch Waterways department is the project 'Renovation at Belfeld/Sambeek 2nd stage'. The work consists of carrying out the renovation of the electrical engineering systems of the lock and reservoir complexes and supplying and installing a new operation and control system. This includes monitor operation of the entire system for both complexes.
Both projects will run for one year. Work on the two reservoir and lock systems is to be completed by September 2007. The total value of the orders is about ten million euro.
