GTI West Industrie builds transfer station for biodiesel plant

Zaltbommel/Rotterdam,  October 12, 2006

GTI West Industrie is to build the transfer station for Europe's largest biodiesel plant. The new plant, located in the Botlek area of Rotterdam, will produce 400,000 tonnes of biodiesel and 60,000 tonnes of pharmaceutical glycerine a year. The fully automated transfer station must be operational by August next year. The new contract gives GTI West Industrie a high profile in the growing storage and transfer market.

Fully automated and unmanned
The GTI transfer station is special because it is fully automated and therefore unmanned, which is good for aspects such as safety and efficiency. Truck drivers will drive their vehicles under the loading arm. Their tanks will be filled and measured, and on their way out they will collect the invoice that has been generated. The transfer station is controlled by 'GTI MES Toolbox', a software system developed in-house by GTI. This makes it an independent program and no licences are required.

Collaboration and expertise
GTI is building the transfer station in close cooperation with WLT, a manufacturer of loading arm and fall protection systems. This approach helps to fulfil one of GTI's key aims, which is to be involved in projects or long-term cooperative ventures with partners that have added expertise to offer. GTI and WLT recently completed a similar project for AKZO's new chlorine plant in Delfzijl, which was opened on 26 September this year.
