GTI Noordwest builds electrical system for Corus in record speed

Velsen-Noord,  March 10, 2008

Multinational Siemens VAI has awarded GTI Noordwest the contract to build the electrical system for a new cold mill 22 for Corus. Total costs for building this system are more than EUR 2.7 million. GTI Noordwest has planned this task very efficiently and dedicates no fewer than 25,000 man-hours to it over a three-month period. Most of the work is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2008.

The work comprises installation of all control, distribution and drive panels and the transformers. Every part of the system will have a high level of safety and reliability. A strict safety regime is also in force for all work activities. The project uses over 125 kilometres of cable, that is a total of more than 4000 separate cables which need to be connected and tested.

GTI Noordwest is able to take on this project and complete it despite the tight schedule because it is already very familiar with the working procedures and quality requirements of Corus. Both parties have worked together for thirty years now, to their complete satisfaction. Hans van Happen, Member of the Executive Team and General Manager of Cluster Noord says: "This project is a huge challenge for us, but given our years of experience with Corus we have every confidence that we will be able to deliver full satisfaction."
