GTI responsible for electrical engineering systems for three new ships

Rotterdam/Zaltbommel,  April 25, 2007

New orders worth 15 million euros

GTI West Industrie BV reports a growing number of orders within its Marine & Offshore business unit. Recent evidence is the contract for the delivery and installation of the electrical engineering systems for three new ships under construction, each 132 metres long. Shipbuilders Merwede Shipyard Nieuwbouw BV and IHC Holland Merwede Krimpen BV (formerly Van der Giessen de Noord) awarded GTI the contracts. The increase in the activities is a direct consequence of the recovery of the Dutch shipbuilding industry resulting from the growing international demand for energy. Ships, pipelines and processing platforms for oil and gas extraction need to be operational as quickly as possible.

The three ships that GTI has added to its order portfolio will be used for maintenance and other support activities for drilling platforms on the open sea. To facilitate these activities, each ship is fitted with a diving system. GTI is responsible for the complete electrical engineering and delivery of the various technical systems on board, such as Metroform switching and operating panels and IT, communication and fire alarm systems. The ships will all be in the DP3 class and will have an installed power of between 13 and 15 mW. The completion of the ships is scheduled for the spring of 2008.

Together with the companies Axima, Elyo, ENDEL, INEO, Tractebel Engineering and Fabricom GTI, GTI is part of SUEZ Energy Services.
