GTI awarded contract for the overhaul of the Calandbrug Bridge
Bunnik/Heinenoord , October 28, 2005GTI Infra bv, as a member of a construction consortium with Hollandia, has recently been awarded a contract from the Betuweroute Freight Railway Project Organization for the renovation of the Calandbrug Bridge. GTI Infra bv's duties encompass the complete replacement of the bridge's power supplies, drive and control installations from upwards of 10KV. Hollandia BV's primary duties extend to the installation of sound-damping insulation, overhaul of the existing drive and the moving structure, improvement and expansion of the structural steel elements, reinforcement of the bridge's structure, and repairs to the preservative coating. The entire contract involves an amount of 19 million euros. The contract will be carried out by the Bouwcombinatie Hollandia BV - GTI Infra bv v.o.f. construction consortium.
This work is part of a major project encompassing the construction of the Betuweroute freight railway line and the upgrading of those sections of the Betuweroute that will make use of existing track. The Betuweroute railway line consists largely of new track that will be used solely by freight trains. This 160-kilometre freight railway line will ensure for the transport of goods arriving at Rotterdam Mainport to the European hinterland in the fastest and safest possible manner.
The work on the Calandbrug Bridge, West of the Municipality of Rozenburg, will begin at the end of 2005. GTI's duties are comprised of the removal of the existing drives and bridge controls, followed by the installation of computer-controlled drives and an automatic bridge-control installation. The overhaul needs to be carried out in phases to ensure that the bridge can remain in operation during the work. Bouwcombinatie Hollandia BV - GTI Infra BV v.o.f. was awarded this contract by the Betuweroute Project Organization as a result of the construction consortium's technical specialization, experience, knowledge, and submission of a competitively-priced tender. The electrical-engineering work (the replacement of the bridge installation) and the majority of Hollandia's work is scheduled for completion in mid-2006; the repairs to the preservative coating will continue to mid-2007.
