St. Elisabeth Hospital Tilburg signs unique collaboration contract with GTI for energy supply

Tilburg/Bunnik ,  January 12, 2005

The St. Elisabeth Hospital Tilburg has signed a collaboration contract with GTI that is unique in the Dutch hospital world. GTI will design, realise and operate the new power plant of the St. Elisabeth Hospital. Financing of the investment has been placed with a lease company. GTI will also manage and maintain the energy plant in the coming 15 years. This means that all energy facilities such as electricity, heat, cooling, gas, power, hot and cold tap water will be delivered by GTI. As far as we know, this is the first time that a hospital contracts out the complete energy facility, including the required investment, to an external party in this manner.

Sustainable and fitting solution
The hospital's existing boiler house will in the near future no longer be able to comply with the current environmental legislation and meet the increased energy need resulting from various planned expansions. The St. Elisabeth Hospital therefore realised the need of an energy facility that meets the present as well as the future requirements and needs. Since GTI has been carrying out mechanical and electrical activities for the St. Elisabeth Hospital for some time, it possesses thorough knowledge of the present installations. This enabled GTI to offer a fitting and sustainable solution. In the design, GTI has for example added a number of options for sustainable energy and energy saving, such as flue gas coolers, low-nox burners and heat-cold storage. By using a combination of diesel engines and gas engines instead of only gas engines, GTI can guarantee delivery. During the activities, the hospital will continue to operate as usual, despite the fact that a major share of the works will take place in the existing boiler room. The first activities will start in the spring of 2005. The entire energy system of the St. Elisabeth Hospital will be operational in May 2006.

Unique collaboration
This unique form of collaboration between a public institution, a private company and the lease construction, enables the St. Elisabeth Hospital to make optimal use of the knowledge that GTI possesses. If the hospital had had to realise this energy project on its own, it would have made an enormous demand on the hospital's limited financial resources. In this collaboration, the energy plant and the terrain will by the way remain the property of the St. Elisabeth Hospital.
