Operation of technical installations, Betuwe Route
Contract: Operating system for the technical installations in five tunnels on the Betuwe Route
Client: Betuwe Route Project Organisation
Completion: January 2007
GTI supplied and installed the operating system for the technical installations in five tunnels on the Betuwe Route. This makes a substantial contribution to tunnel safety and availability.
Work carried out
GTI was responsible for:
- the supply and installation of the whole operating system for the technical tunnel installations, including the sprinkler system;
- the supply and installation of several detection systems, including fire, train and gas detection systems. The systems are able to detect incidents and combat their effects. The technical tunnel installations then respond immediately to the accident in the tunnel.
Besides supplying, assembling and installing these systems, GTI also provided:
- the supply, assembly and installation of the weather station systems;
- the supply, assembly and installation of the fibre-optic network for the operating system;
- software and hardware engineering of the detection systems and the operating system;
- starting up the operating system, including the detection systems;
- starting up all the technical tunnel installations in cooperation with the client.
The Betuwe Route operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This places heavy demands on the availability of operating and detection systems. Together with Rockwell Automation BV, which had a framework agreement for this project, GTI carried out extensive RAMS analyses and calculations (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety). These enabled us to demonstrate that the operating and detection systems meet the strict availability requirements.
