Shell Chemicals called GTI in to carry out the Moerdijk Advanced Recovery System project based on engineering by Stone & Webster. The aim of the project was to modernise Shell's Moerdijk Lower Olefins plant and significantly increase its production capacity. It was a massive job that had to be completed in a relatively short time. Therefore GTI based its approach on tight organisation and mobilised a large group of engineers. In the final phase, during the shutdown for maintenance and inspection, there were no fewer than 250 GTI staff working on-site at the same time. After 200,000 staff hours, the project was completed on schedule. Within three days of starting up, the plant met all the specifications. Thanks in part to GTI's efforts, the Moerdijk Lower Olefins plant is now one of the largest producers of ethane and propane.
